Morning Routine {Kalamazoo Lifestyle Photographer}

In an effort to continue to capture my children at home, I photographed parts of our morning routine. From my first quiet cup of coffee to the girls heading off to school, there are so many moments and memories that someday I might forget.

morning coffee

Leah’s chocolate chip pancake breakfast – this happened every morning.  Yes, EVERY morning.

Both girls are very good about brushing their teeth every morning.  In fact, they fight over who gets to go first…yes, for brushing their teeth.  sigh.  So we instituted “Hannah’s day and Leah’s day”. On their day they get to brush teeth first, get their hair done first, feed the dog, let the dog out of the kennel, pick their cup/plate, etc.  Sounds tedious but I wrote them on the calendar so they can check and see whose day it is.  It certainly cuts down on the arguing.  Gotta love the bed head!

Time to take care of the aforementioned bed head.  Leah has to get some doggy kisses before school. And somehow I managed to peek in on both of them while they were putting their socks on.

Leah leaves earlier than Hannah so Hannah’s routine is usually a bit slower.  She often has time to read before school.  Last thing before heading out the door is packing her backpack.  Folder? Check.  Lunch?  Check.  Snowpants? Check.  Gym shoes?  Check.

framed in fur {Kalamazoo Child Photographer}

I am participated in a blog circle with a group from Clickin’ Moms. The idea is that we have a theme each month to challenge our creative minds. My whole circle will post on the same day and link to each other so you can see how everyone interpreted the challenge. Just follow the link at the bottom of each post…eventually you will get back to me and complete the circle. Enjoy!

The challenge for January was Close-Up Portraits. I already embrace close-ups whenever I shoot but I used this challenge to pseudo-recreate a photo of my daughter from 2 years ago.

This is Hannah at age 5. I have always loved this photo and how the fur frames her face.

This was taken in January – she is now 7. It amazes me how much she looks the same, yet so different. I love that her tooth is missing.

And just because she looks 7 going on 13 in this one.

Be sure to check out how Melissa viewed the challenge!

Four Brothers {Richland Family Photographer}

This past weekend, I was able to spend some time with four brothers! Yes, four – from 6 years old all the way to 4 weeks old. This house is going to be very lively for years to come. I love how they also wanted to go outside even though it was cold…the hats make it fun! Enjoy!

Mine on Monday {Kalamazoo Child Photographer}

I haven’t done a Mine on Monday post in awhile.  The weather was so beautiful this weekend in southwestern Michigan and we took our pup for a family hike both mornings.  I took my camera in hopes of a good shot of Lexi since she has grown so much since my last post of her.  Well needless to say, I think pet photographers are super heroes.   She is so busy, fast, and BLACK that I have such a hard time photographing her – sometimes my camera just can’t find focus since there isn’t any contrast on her at all and since she usually only gives my 0.25 seconds before running off…I am not fast enough with manual focus.  Oh and add it the fact that anytime I point the camera in her direction she thinks that is a cue to run as fast as she can towards me, especially since I usually try to shoot her down on her level.  It’s an invitation to play.  Today I will try to bribe her with hot dogs and see if I can get some eye contact.

Added bonus of having my camera is the girls both wanted their photo taken.  I love this location…I will have to take them back sometime with a session in mind.
