Happy Mother’s Day {Kalamazoo family photographer}

Happy Mother’s Day to all of my former and future clients, friends and family!!!

Every mother should make it a point to be in the photographs. Whether you hire someone for family photos or hand your camera to your husband, friend, family member, or a stranger, just get your relationship, your moments, your bond captured to be enjoyed for years to come. And don’t forget to pay it forward…when you are out and about at the zoo, in the city, at the lake, etc. and you see a mom taking a photo of her family, ask her if she wants to jump in the photo. (And get those dads with cameras in there too).

I vividly remember the day I was taking some photos of my family on a big rock in Central Park. Two ladies were walking by and offered to take a photo of all four of us. As nervewracking as it was to hand over my camera, I did it and I love having that image of my family. Everytime we went to the park after that (which was many, many times since we were living in Manhattan at the time), I kept my eye open for anyone who needed a kind stranger to help them get into their own family photos. Little did they know that I photograph people as my work and own my own photography business.

To celebrate, I thought I would share a few mom/child images from the past year.

Bubble girl { Kalamazoo baby photographer}

I recently had a session with Miss Natalie who is seven months old.   One of my favorite things about shooting in a client’s home is being able to capture some everyday activities – real life memories.  During our session, Natalie took a short bath in the kitchen sink…AND I was there to capture her FIRST time in bubbles!  Her first impression was cautious wonderment.  Then her interest slowly moved to all of the puffy white bubbles.  By the end, she was loving her first bubble bath.  As much as I adore her smile, I might just love her serious face even more – Miss Natalie is a thinker.

Beautiful Family, Chilly Day

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate as we hoped, we still had a great time.  This little park was a perfect setting for some family portraits. Although it felt like I knew Dylan and her little brother Owen, this was actually my first time ever meeting them in person.  I hope you guys enjoy your sneak peek!

Time is Fleeting {Kalamazoo newborn photographer}

I absolutely LOVE when moms want to capture some images while breastfeeding.  Often it is the second-time moms because they remember how quickly time passed the first time around.  There is a beauty and intimacy to these portraits but even more so, it captures a time in your baby’s life that is fleeting – regardless of whether you breastfeed days, weeks, or years.  It is hard for me to remember the connection, the bond, the peacefulness (once we figured everything out).  Luckily for this mom – she can always glimpse back at these precious moments.

early morning fun {CT family photographer}

A couple of weekends ago, I had an early morning minisession with this family.  I love how they coordinated their outfits and we made use of their backyard for our shoot.  Aiden gave us a run for our money as he ran around as only an almost 3 year old can do.  Colin, while recently becoming mobile, wasn’t a fan of the grass so he didn’t go far.  He has this great serious face but we even managed some smiles!  Ross and Heather – enjoy your sneak peek!
