This week I got to spend a beautiful afternoon with Blake and his mom. I love when moms get in the photos too. Often moms are behind the camera capturing their little ones and there is little photographic evidence of their existence. It’s time to change that! Blake is 15 months old and was fun to chase around. At this age, they just want to go and do their own thing. Blake played with a toothbrush, keys, balls, a lens cap and some sticks. The balls seemed to be his favorite (once we we removed his death grip from the toothbrush that seemed destined to be in their images.) My favorite is the genuine laughter and joy in the last one. Our session also ended with a bit of drama and adventure but that is Christa’s story to share.![]()

This month’s blog circle challenge was shooting thru glass. My first thought was windows. I debated shooting my kids inside my house from the outside…then I debated the opposite – shooting my kids outside from inside the house. Then came the shoot thru the wine glass idea which was quickly discarded…in the end, I decided to shoot thru an old camera – an Argus 75. I hope you enjoy!
Check out how Linnea completed the challenge here.
I can’t believe it has been a whole month since our last Chasing Moments Blog Circle. If you missed it last month, I am participating in a blog circle with some fabulous ladies who are also committing to capturing their children. Sometimes as I capture these moments, they are solitary moments…a peek into our life, a single shot. At other times, I collect these moments and this collection becomes a story. Enjoy my stories below!
The first bike ride of the year. Hannah, in her new helmet provided by the school, remembering how to ride on two wheels and Leah gaining confidence on 4 wheels before we remove the training wheels this summer.
Our first spring hike with Lexi. Yes, I said spring…it is Michigan…sometimes spring means winter jackets and hats.
Our belated Easter egg dying since we spent our spring break in NYC and CT. I don’t know that sponge painting was any less messy than dipping in dye but they had a lot of fun. I love the chipped finger nail polish.
Be sure to continue thru our circle and see how my amazing friends have chased this month. Next up is Kimberly of Fanciful Photography.
We are all chasing moments…moments we want to remember forever. And often times, as a professional photographer, you sometimes forget to chase your own moments. I’ve joined a fabulous group of ladies, who are all professional photographers, moms and friends to do a monthly blog circle chasing and capturing our own moments.
Last night, I decided to capture bedtime. Our routine is vitamins, brush teeth, climb in bed and goodnights. Hannah is typically in bed ready to read until lights out. Leah tends to wait until bedtime to ask all of the important questions. They usually start with “When can we ever…?”
Hannah often reads before bed. Right now she is working her way thru “The Puppy Place” series about a family that fosters all kinds of puppies. Her other favorite thing to do is to flip thru her school yearbook. I am pretty sure she has it completely memorized.
Leah loves looking thru her library books before bed. She also loves reading Dora and a set called Cool Cats. She can also “read” Knuffle Bunny from memory. Last night she decided to block my attempts to take a photo or two. Then I thought I would win by getting her face in the mirror but alas she got me on that one two. Finally I promised two more clicks and I would put it down. I finally got a bit of cooperation and her Leah smile. And yes, photographing in her super pink room drives me batty. It makes me want to turn everything black and white but then how ill we really remember the pinkness of it all?
Now head on over to my friend Jessica Hamlin’s blog to see her “Chasing Moments” post this month. I love every shot she took!
In an effort to continue to capture my children at home, I photographed parts of our morning routine. From my first quiet cup of coffee to the girls heading off to school, there are so many moments and memories that someday I might forget.
Leah’s chocolate chip pancake breakfast – this happened every morning. Yes, EVERY morning.
Both girls are very good about brushing their teeth every morning. In fact, they fight over who gets to go first…yes, for brushing their teeth. sigh. So we instituted “Hannah’s day and Leah’s day”. On their day they get to brush teeth first, get their hair done first, feed the dog, let the dog out of the kennel, pick their cup/plate, etc. Sounds tedious but I wrote them on the calendar so they can check and see whose day it is. It certainly cuts down on the arguing. Gotta love the bed head!
Time to take care of the aforementioned bed head. Leah has to get some doggy kisses before school. And somehow I managed to peek in on both of them while they were putting their socks on.
Leah leaves earlier than Hannah so Hannah’s routine is usually a bit slower. She often has time to read before school. Last thing before heading out the door is packing her backpack. Folder? Check. Lunch? Check. Snowpants? Check. Gym shoes? Check.
